Answers

System requirements

1. Can I run the DVD on a Video DVD player connected to my television?

No! This DVD is a PC-DVD, i.e. it is software designed for PCs with Windows 2000 / XP. Due to the large amount of data it is provided on DVD.

2. Can I run the DVD on my Apple computer?

We focused on Windows because it is a very common operating system among private users. By using an emulator, you can run the 3D RealityMap also on an Apple computer.

3. Why is no Linux version available?

We focused on Windows 2000 / XP / Vista because it is a very common operating among private users.

4. Can I run the DVD also in foreign countries, e.g. the USA?

The 3D DVD runs with any language available with Windows 2000 / XP / Vista.

5. How can I verify that my PC is capable of running this software?

CPU and RAM

From your ?Start menu? click ?Control Panel? then ?Sytem?, The following window will open up:

You can find your CPU?s clock rate and installed RAM in the yellow box.
The clock rate (speed of your processor) should at least be 1,5 GHz, or for better results 2 GHz or more

Your RAM (working storage) should at least be 512 MB or 1 GB or more.

    Graphics card:

Click your right mouse button on an empty space on your desk top and go to ?Properties?. Under ?Settings? the following window will open up:

Click ?Advanced? and in the following window ?Adapter?.

The red box will show the type of graphics card you have and the amount of memory.

Your type of chip should be ATI Radeon 8xxxx, 9xxxx, Xxxxx bzw. nVidia GeForce 4, 5xxx, 6xxx or 7xxx.

Your graphic card?s memory should be at least 64 MB or 128 MB or more for better performance.

The following OnBoard graphics solutions are not suitable: Intel 900 or 9000, ATI IGP with Shared Memory 32 / 64 MB. They might function, but are not really powerful enough.

    6. Where do I get the latest drivers for my graphics card?

    Desktop systems:

ATI Versions 5.12 and later generally provide a noticeable increase in speed with OpenGL applications ?like the one in question. Furthermore, the driver now uses dual-core CPUs more efficiently? e.g. PentiumD, Athlon64 X2 ? or dual-processor systems ? e.g. Xeon, Opteron with 2 CPUs.

nVidia Versions 80.xx and later generally provide a noticeable increase in speed with dual-core CPUs ? eg. PentiumD , Athlon64 X2 ? or dual-processor ? e.g. Xeon, Opteron with 2 CPUs.

    Notebooks:

With most notebooks one depends on the driver provided by the manufacturer. These, however, are not always the most current ones. ATI and nVidia provide drivers which are optimized for installation on notebooks. In general, they improve the speed significantly.

ATI - notebook drivers modified drivers for notebooks with ATI mobility card

nVIDIA - notebook drivers modified drivers for notebooks with ATI mobility card

    ATTENTION!

These drivers are modified original drivers for desktop systems which were optimized for installation on notebooks.

For this reason installation will be at your own risk!

    7. I have a Medion System (ALDI) and the usual ATI or nVidia graphics drivers cannot be installed

Medion uses standard graphics chips by ATI or nVidia designated with a synonym. The following designations are typical for Medion systems: ATI 9800XL, ATI 9800 XXL, ATI 740 XL oder nVidia 6610XL, nVidia 6700 XL.

The Aldi notebook MD 95800 (05/2005) has Intel-graphics not suitable for running the 3D DVD.

If you want to find out which graphics card you have, please compare under point 5.

    ATI 9800XL, ATI 9800 XXL, ATI 740 XL MD 8080 (11/2003), MD 8083 (03/2004), MD 8030 (07/2004)

    ATI 9800XL, ATI 9800 XXL, ATI 740 XL MD 8080 (11/2003), MD 8083 (03/2004), MD 8030 (07/2004)

    nVidia 6610 XL, nVidia 6700 XL MD 8383 (11/2004), MD 8800 (11/2005)

Alternatively you can look for suitable drivers for your system on the Medion homepage (you will also find instructions on how to find the serial number).
Medion-Homepage Please make sure to download a driver not older than 12/2004 or your 3D DVD will not run!

    Installation

    1. Upon insertion of my DVD the DVD drive makes a clattering noise and the PC does not recognize the DVD!

There are different releases of this DVD. Some batches will not run in older DVD drives ? especially those of some notebooks (combi drives which can burn CDs but which can only read DVDs).
Make sure to ask for a DVD with a silvery and shiny underside. If you have a notebook, please bring it along to test it.

    Registration

    1. Do I need to register?

You have two weeks to test our product. For further use the application must be registered and activated with an authorization code that will be sent to you.

    2. Why do I need to register?

The collection of geodata and development of the software is very expensive. The price-performance ratio of the 3D DVD is excellent. This DVD therefore has a single user licence.
Purpose of the registration is to limit the number of unauthorized copies. Moreover it ensures further development and future updates to this application.

    3. What do I need to do in order to register and how does it work?

When starting the application, a registration form pops up. You can skip this for two weeks and test the application first.

Up to now, this problem could be solved by updating your graphics card driver.

    3. At this point there is no solution for this problem.
Please ask for an authorization key. If after entering the authorization key, the problem still occurs, please contact our support: support@reality-maps.de

    4. Starting the application takes much longer then the specified 3 minutes (taking up to 17 minutes) but sooner or later the application will start.

If you have 512 MB upon starting the application possibly more than 250 MB of memory is already used up. This happens, for example, due to anti virus software, Office quick start and other applications loaded during the Windows startup. Before starting the application, enter the shortcut STRG + ALT + ENTF (or CTRL + ALT + DEL), open the task manager and click ?Performance? in order to check the memory needed.

If already more than 200 MB are used up, the application transfers parts to the swap file on the hard drive. Accessing this data is more time consuming than accessing data in memory (RAM). Thus starting the application can take up to 17 minutes.

The only solution is a memory upgrade to 1GB or more.

To find out your PC?s amount of RAM (working memory), click here: system requirements In any case you should load the small version as it needs fewer resources than the extended version and will start faster.

    Within the application

    1. Can I speed up formation of images?

    2. Can I add more details to the images, i.e. improve their quality?

To increase the speed of the application you can also install the latest driver for your graphics card.

If you have 512 MB, a memory upgrade to 1 GB or more will significantly increase the speed of your application start up. Please enter your name and phone number.
